WHAT FABRICS DOES MIIK USE?

The majority of Miik styles are made from natural fabrics such as rayon from bamboo and Modal (made from beech trees). Each style's specific fabric contents are listed on its product page under the Fabric + Care tab. Here are some general compositions and brief care instructions (but please note that each specific style + colour may vary from what's below; this is just a general guide):

Bamboo, solid colours: 90% rayon from bamboo, 10% Lycra, available in both 310 and 190 gsm weights. Machine wash in cold water and hang or lay flat to dry. Tailored jackets are dry clean only.

Bamboo ponte, black: Double-knit from 70% rayon from bamboo, 20% nylon, 10% Lycra; 380 gsm. Machine wash in cold water and hang or lay flat to dry, unless otherwise specified. Tailored jackets are dry clean only.

Modal: 90% modal, 10% Lycra; 310 gsm. Machine wash in cold water and hang or lay flat to dry.

MicroModal: 90% MicroModal, 10% Lycra; 190 gsm. Machine wash in cold water and hang or lay flat to dry. Tailored jackets are dry clean only.

Viscose: 96% LENZING™ viscose, 4% spandex; 220 gsm. Machine wash in cold water and hang or lay flat to dry.

LightLuxe: 47% TENCEL™ Modal fibers, 47% Polyester, 6% Lycra spandex. Machine wash in cold water; do NOT use fabric softener. Lay flat to dry.

“Dry clean only” items: These items require dry cleaning because they contain interfacing that may be damaged by any liquid, or because they may shrink or lose their shape with conventional washing. Do not use professional or at-home wet cleaning methods to launder these items.

TENCEL™ and LENZING™ are trademarks of Lenzing AG.

WHERE ARE MIIK'S FABRICS MADE?

The large majority of our fabrics are custom-made for us in Canada - right here in the Greater Toronto Area! From thread to hanger, every step of our production process from custom milling and dyeing our fabrics, to cutting and sewing the finished garments takes place within 50 km of our Etobicoke headquarters. (FYI: Custom milling is the process of making our own fabric – turning fibres from sustainable resources into yarn, and yarn into fabric. Cool, right?!)

The source of some fibres (which are then used to mill yarn and make our fabric in Canada) have to come from overseas: Rayon from bamboo fibres and Beech tree fibres come from China. No matter how much we wish for it, Canada's colder climate simply isn't suitable for large-scale farming of these trees, which prefer warmer, tropical conditions. But again, we use those fibres in Canada -- to mill yarn and make our fabric right here in the GTA.

What we can't do in Canada: We use a Canadian supplier to purchase our patterned fabrics (not including striped fabrics, which we custom-mill); however, our Canadian supplier stocks their resources from various locations. We ensure they are all OEKO-TEX® Standard 100 certified and sustainably made, but unfortunately, the fabric itself cannot be made in Canada. There simply is no one available to do so. Once it's in our hands, however, all our Canadian contractors make those patterned fabrics into the finished styles you know and love.
